Nagoya University (名古屋大学), abbreviated as Meidai (名大) or NU, is a world-class Japanese national research university located in Chikusa-ku, Nagoya, Japan. Founded in 1871 as a temporary hospital and medical school, it was chartered as an Imperial University in 1939 and is now a Designated National University. NU is home to 9 undergraduate schools, 13 graduate schools, and 29 research institutes and centres, with approximately 16,200 students — including over 2,500 international students from 100+ countries and territories.

NU has been associated with 6 Nobel Laureates since the year 2000, including Dr. Hiroshi Amano, who won the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics for co-inventing the energy-efficient blue LED.
