Vocational School

The National Institute of Technology (NIT), which is an incorporated administrative agency of Japan organizes 51 Colleges of Technology (KOSEN). KOSEN is a unique educational institution in Japan, and is a 5-year higher education institution where students can enroll from the age of 15 after graduating from junior high school, in order to foster engineers in high demand by society. Also, NIT holds a 3rd-year transfer exam for international students. In 2022 it celebrated 60th anniversary of the establishment of the KOSEN system. By providing specialized education that emphasizes experiments and practical experience from an early stage, the curriculum has features that enable students to acquire knowledge and skills at or above the same level as those at university by the time they graduate. In addition, all KOSEN colleges offer a 2-year advanced course, where students can continue their education after completing the 5-year regular course.
